INSTANT AI UPDATE 24 - THE DEEPFAKE DILEMMA - In Update 22, we discussed the impacts of AI-generated (false) evidence on our legal system. In this update, we look broadly at the issues posed by deepfake content. 

Deepfakes are synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else's likeness using AI algorithms, particularly deep learning techniques such as generative adversarial networks (GANs). Generative AI has ushered in a new era of media manipulation, with deepfake technology at the forefront. Scandals, including former CNN anchor Jim Acosta's interview with an AI-generated Parkland shooting victim and the viral circulation of deepfakes involving the Astronomer CEO and the company's Chief People Officer, have refueled debates about the implications of deepfakes.
